Software for PC Control of Surface Analytical Intruments

The IAC has developed software for Windows (3.x 95, 98 & NT) to run Auger, XPS, SEM and SIMS microscopes.

It is used within our own department to run our PHI 595, Kratos XSAM 800, Jeol Auger, SEM and SIMS instruments. It has also been installed on Kratos, VG, JEOL and other instruments in the UK, Australia, USA, France and Romania.

We offer two main software package solutions, MICA (Microscope Image Control Acquisition) image acquisition software and Pisces (Programmable Interface for Spectrometer Control Electronics) spectra acquisition software. We also offer other subsidiary machine-specific packages.

MICA (Microscope Image Control Acquisition) is a purpose written Windows-based program, which allows computer control of any scanning-type microscope. It collects a signal (e.g. secondary electron) from the microscope and displays it as an image on a PC.

Pisces Spectral Acquisition Software is available for all types of surface analysis microscopes. It runs within MICA on a Windows-based PC, allowing acquisition and manipulation of spectral information.
